Where is Latvia located?

Latvia is situated in the Northern Europe on the East coast of the Baltic Sea. Latvia has borders with Lithuania, Estonia, Russia and Belarus and the Baltic Sea to the west. Our country is divided in 109 areas and 4 regions - Kurzeme, Latgale, Vidzeme, Zemgale. Latvia has picturesque landscapes with lovely river valleys, thousands of lakes and hundreds of kilometers of undeveloped seashore lined by pine forests and continuous white sand beaches. With over 44 percent of its territory covered by forests, a vast network of free flowing rivers and thousands of lakes, Latvia is a place to enjoy wild and natural landscapes.

About Riga

The capital of Latvia - Riga - is the political, economic and culture centre of the country. Riga is located on the banks of the Daugava River. Riga is one of the oldest and the most beautiful cities of Europe. In 2011 Riga celebrated the 810th anniversary of its foundation. Riga has a most advantageous position - at the crossroads of Eastern Europe, Western Europe, Russia and Scandinavia, making it the largest industrial in the Baltic States. Small business and service industry are developing rapidly in Riga. With approx. one million inhabitants, it can be considered as heart of the Baltic region. An advantageous geographic position and cultural heritage have guaranteed Riga the possibility of being a significant tourism centre. The narrow streets, warehouses from Middle Ages, dwelling houses and numerous churches in the Old Town, distinctive Art Nouveau architecture are in the list of UNESCO world heritage. Old Riga has maintained the irregular form of a medieval fortified city. There are a large number of cafes and taverns in Riga that stand out with their pleasant atmosphere and high-class service. The Conference will be held at the main building of Riga Technical University. Address: 1 Kalku Street, Riga, LATVIA. It is located in Riga Down Town and is easy to reach from the bus station or the airport.
